On this weeks show we continue with people we met at Nanango at the Country Music Muster. Phill chats with Kev Goodbun who is a walk up artist.

Kev first started playing guitar at home as an interest, playing at family gatherings. He joined a Country Music Club in the Newcastle area and this gave him the confidence to get up on stage and play. He started on stage in late 2016 and has gone on from there.

Looking on the internet found the smallest festivals that he could attend and play. He favours music from John Denver and Kris kristofferson’s music and has started singing Slim Dusty. He is more a balladeer, and his audience prefers the older style music as they are seniors and grey nomads.

Next on the show we have moved on to the Bony Mountain Folk Festival which is out from Warwick in Queensland. Phill chats with Kev “Dubbo” Turner.

Dubbo is a regular at Bony Mountain and is a local to the area. Has been to every year since the festival has been running. Dubbo is a player and singer but does not write his own music. Dubbo left home at the age of 13. He grew up on a sheep station and school had to have an attendance of 9 students to keep the school running. He has done droving in his younger years moving sheep and bullocks.

Listen to his interview he has had a very exciting life.

Next on the show Phill interviews Norma O’Hara Murphy. She is a singer and entertainer and then decided to start hosting and running a festival, which is held on her property. It has been running for 14 years.

The Bony Mountain Folk Festival is a delightful community event held every year at the wonderful bush retreat .  The property is situated in Southern Queensland 20 minutes outside of Warwick, 2 hours from Brisbane.
The festival commenced in 2011, so we are now coming up to our 14th year! Our “little festival in the bush” is a laid-back, stress-free week or weekend (your choice) with no big crowds or hustle and bustle. Music ranges from Bluegrass/Country/Bush Ballads/Jazz/Folk/Celtic/-and our new Comedy Club on Sunday! will be a hoot.

Those that are musically inclined you can walk up and sing, recite poetry or attend a Ukulele school which is held every morning over the week and go away being able to play.

There are stall holders with food and market wares for sale. Its very rustic so you need to provide your own power but there are portable toilets around the grounds. There is also a tank where you can fill a jerry can for water.

Last year 2022 was a bit of a washout where tractors had to come in and pull out the vans and this year was a dust bowl.

Norma, a much travelled International artist and award winner (now retired), no longer tours- Norma has been described as a national treasure and has won many awards- an Aria finalist- several Golden Guitars, Australian Celtic Artist of the year in 2014 and many more. Norma’s story is a long one, but after forty + years her songs are still on the charts. Her recent release ‘Cowboys” is the current flavour of the month both here & in the USA and Canada. And (Drifting Down The Darling) on the charts currently. Norma’s brand new single (Kosciusko) dedicated to our Brumbies, was launched at the Festival!
