We camped up for a couple of nights at Terramungamine Camp ground about 10 minutes ot of Dubbo. Its a small campground on the Macquarie River. Whilst here take a short stroll and view the Rock Grooves, carved by the Wiradjuri Tribe to sharpen tools and spears and also a meeting place for the Tubbagah people.

Whilst there we started up a conversation with a couple doing some work there, and also their car was another reason tfor our curiosity. It had Zoo2Zoo on the side we we were a little curious about what it was about. We met Andrew and Julie and they took the time to chat on air with us about this non for profit organisation that do bike rides between the zoos. The point of this is providing a safe and enjoyable ride during the event and the second is to raise funds and awareness for The Black Dog Institute. The ride starts at a zoo, so this year is Taronga Zoo and works its way through the towns and finishes at the Dubbo Western Plains Zoo. Its amazing the people you meet on the road, after chatting with Andrew and Julie they introduced us to Barry Brebner. Barry lives in Dubbo with his wife, but they also travelled Australia extensively many years ago. Barry chats with Phill about his book Workabout Australia and all the jobs available in Australia around the country. What a great way to see Australia and also pick up some work to pay for the added luxuries. The book is no longer in print but for $40 a year you can sign up and every Friday receive emails with jobs available and plan your holiday and also work around Australia. We take a drive to Gilgandra and visit the rural museum, whilst there we chat to Max. He talks us through whats to see. The museum is open every day except Christmas Day and is on the highway into town. Plenty of parking and entry is only $5.00. You could spend a few hours here going through the different rooms and displays.

While you are here, inspect the Ridley Stripper, Ruston Proctor 1912 Steam Traction Engine, Pfitzner’s 1920 Titan Tractor, Ajax Gas Producer, McKay Harvester and McCormick Deering Tractor and other unique examples of tractors and agricultural equipment used by the pioneers in the Gilgandra District.

In the display room complex, adjacent to the main building you will find a range of collections items including photographs of the local area, musical instruments, and sewing machines from past times. Gilgandra is also known for the many windmills in the area.https://mgnsw.org.au/organisations/gilgandra-rural-museum
