We have the opportunity of catching up and chatting with one of Australia’s female authors Karly Lane. We meet Karly who lives on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales.

She is lucky enough to spend her day doing the two things she loves most – being a mum and writing stories set in beautiful rural Australia. I chat with her about her latest book “Take Me Home’ set in Scotland.

Her bestselling novels include North StarMorgan’s LawBridie’s ChoicePoppy’s DilemmaGemma’s BluffTallowood BoundSecond Chance TownThird Time LuckyIf Wishes Were HorsesSix Ways to SundaySomeone Like YouFool Me OnceSomething Like ThisTake Me Home and the bestselling Callahans of Stringybark Creek series – The Wrong CallahanMr Right Now, and Return to Stringybark Creek. Karly Lane’s seventeenth novel, Take Me Home (May 2021), was inspired by her own recent journey through beautiful, mysterious Scotland

We continue with our journey around Australia with David and Martina. They talk us through some of the issues they encounter being in close proximity with just the vehicle to live in for an extended period of time and also the trials with small space and weather.

They also had the opportunity of spending time with friends on a cattle station up in the Cooktown area, spending time on a 125 acre cattle station. This station also has one of the original Trading Post buildings. Plenty of fruit trees also grown on the property like bananas and enjoying the chance to actually sleep in a bed for the first time in a while.

They tell us some stories about a visit with a snake that for some of us would make us run for the hills. The house is left open no closing the doors and windows.

They also tell us a little bit about the Atherton Tablelands which reminds David of home back in the Yarra Velley in Victoria. They visit Nerada Tea farm and also a trip to a dairy. One of the great things about travelling is meeting up with fellow travellers that you find on the road, who may only live a suburb or two away from you.

They also experienced a great camp site at Mareeba at the local drive in, where you can pull up and pay for a couple of movies and camp the night, this is open to all forms of travel including caravans who park up the back so as not blocking the view. Also available are showers, toilets and kiosk. What a great idea.

Another great place to camp they mention out of Mareeba was Davies Creek Campground. The sites are only suitable for cars and tents, this is not suited for caravans. Picnic tables and also toilets available but you need to book on line.
