On this weeks show we chat with Barbara from the Opal Centre. Barbara takes us through some of the interesting things featured, there are also fossils and bones of dinosaurs. The Australian Opal Centre houses the world’s leading collection of opalised fossils and is building a magnificent collection of precious opal, cultural artefacts, artworks, photographs, archival and research materials. Currently in progress is a new two storey building

The complex will contain magnificent permanent exhibitions, education and learning facilities, a cinema, gallery spaces, a spectacular opal vault, research library, scientific laboratory and underground gardens.

100 metres long and two storeys deep, the Australian Opal Centre building will use a combination of ancient and cutting-edge modern technologies to provide its own energy, water, light and fresh air – without being connected to mains power or water. Phill and Barbara

Next on the show we catch up with Mel and Susie. These ladies are amazing and they are Australian Bush Poets and can they tell a tale and a great rendition of a poem. We had the pleasure of meeting Mel & Susie many years ago at The Opal Caravan Park where Phill actually got up on stage and recited The Man From Snowy River with them both. They appear every weekday at the park for the Happy Hour and recite poetry, tell jokes and also encourage the kids to get involved as well as the older audience. We had the pleasure of doing a tour of their home in Lightning Ridge and enjoying a lovely morning tea complete with scones and earing them recite poetry and tell tales, afterwards Phill sat down with the ladies for an interview.

Sitting back chatting with Phill

No trip to Lightning Ridge is complete without visiting Amigos Castle. We managed to catch him there and was able to chat to him about his time in Lightning Ridge and also the building he has constructed. It has not been finished due to health issues but still great to see, the rocks Amigo collected around the digs and put tis all together which is now an amazing tourist attraction.
